So, I'm Lame

I can't do the book club. I've got too much reading, and can't keep up with the two book studies I am in, plus what I need to read for Atlas, plus Augustine. I still want to dress up like a whale or a spear-chucker though.

Well, I've got the book...

It's an old 1930 printing that my Mom got from her grandma. It's a pretty book.

...but I still haven't read past the Extracts.

Dick of Moby

I've read the first 6 chapters of the book (6 of 892) and am enjoying it. Bet's pissed though, because I'm taking a pause from it for Mr. Potter. I think I prefer wands to whales. That makes me a bad husband.

Nantucket Island

I am really loving this book so far. He has such beautiful views on people and life at times. I just finished the chapter on Nantucket. I thought his descriptions were funny, so I decided to check it out and see how accurate it was. One website I went to said "Nantucket has been called "The Timeless Island" . . . and with good reason. When you first step upon the island, you will feel that you have entered a place out of time. In fact, the very name Nantucket comes from a Native American word meaning "faraway island" or "land far out to sea."" I like that. Here are some pictues too. Love you guys! Bet

1st Chapter

Well, I have read the first chapter. In summary, here is all it says. "Men like water. I am going on a whaling voyage." Although, he uses about a thousand more words than me. I really do enjoy the way he writes though. :)

Welcome!

Hello everyone!
Welcome welcome. We are about to get started with this gloriously delightful book club! Here is the list of books so far...

Moby Dick - by Herman Melville
Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire (perfect for halloween)
Searching for God Knows What –Don Miller
The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman
Three by Ted Dekker
Rabbit Redux by John Updike
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers
The Secret Life of Bees by Susan Monk Kidd

We will be reading them in this order. (Although switches may happen along the way.) Everyone will be reading about 1 book a month. I hope that lots of discussion goes on on this page, plus we will be having a dinner at the completion of each book (maybe with delicacies relating to the story??...) I think themed parties would be awesome. Dressing up as favorite characters/economic states is highly recommended. I love you guys. Herman Melville... ships ahoy!!!!

P.S. It has been highly recommended to me to get the abridged version of Moby Dick although, if you are a purist, have at!

Moby Dick

Let's get started reading! Our first dinner will be Saturday, August 13th.
